QUALIFICATIONS:
I have been in Professor Grounds employ since 1989 and in conjunction with being the Laboratory Manager, I specialise in such areas as:
  • Histopathology tissue preparation, processing, cutting (for paraffins, frozens and resins) and evaluation including Autoradiography.
  • Maintenance of continuous cell line cultures and establishment of primary cell cultures for tissue culture procedures.
  • Performing proliferation and bio activity assays.
  • Molecular biological procedures including in-situ hybridisation, labelling of probes (both radio and non-radioactive), random labelling and gel running.
  • Animal surgical procedures and experimentation under license.
  • Computer update of references, maintaining library, methodology and animal records.
  • Assisting in teaching and technical supervision for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Assisting Professor Grounds in administrative duties.

Previously, in the late 1970s and 1980s, I was employed as a Medical Technologist in the clinical aspects of Diagnostic and Anatomical Pathology (UWA) and was responsible for establishing the histopathology service for "Perth Pathology" a private practice. While at the State Health Labs (now The Path Centre) I worked in Neuropathology and the Coronial Service performing a routine surgical service with the emphasis being on histochemistry. Late in 1989 a change of direction brought me into the Research Field (UWA) under Professor Grounds, with continuous funding initially from the Raine Foundation, followed by NH@MRC Grants, American Muscular Dystrophy Association and Parent Project (European).
